SOUS CHEF -THE CRICKETERS
The Cricketers is seeking a talented and dependable sous chef to join our kitchen team as we establish this exciting pub in the heart of Pontcanna. You will work closely with the General Manager and Head Chef to deliver high-quality, seasonal dishes that reflect our neighbourhood-focused, food-first approach.
The Role
As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in running the kitchen on a day-to-day basis. This is a hands-on role that requires excellent culinary skills, strong organisational ability and the capacity to lead a small team during busy service periods. You will help maintain consistency and quality across our menu, assist with menu development, and ensure high standards of food safety and kitchen discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Head Chef in food preparation, cooking and plating to the highest standards
Supervise and mentor kitchen team members, including training and development
Help design and refine seasonal menus and daily specials with a focus on quality, cost and creativity
Monitor and control food cost, portioning and wastage
Ensure compliance with hygiene, health & safety and food safety regulations
Maintain high standards of kitchen organisation, cleanliness and stock rotation
Support ordering and stock management in conjunction with the Head Chef
Step in to run the kitchen during the Head Chef’s absence and manage service smoothly
Contribute ideas to improve processes, menu offering and guest satisfaction
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience working in a busy, food-led pub, gastro pub or casual dining kitchen
Proven experience in a supervisory or junior management kitchen role
Good knowledge of modern British cuisine and seasonal ingredients
Strong understanding of food cost control and portion management
Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or equivalent) desirable
Calm, organised and decisive under pressure with excellent communication skills
A collaborative, hands-on approach and a real passion for delivering great food

Essential Information
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £14.50 PER HOUR(depending on experience)
Location: Pontcanna, Cardiff
Schedule Includes:
Evenings and weekend shifts
Bank holidays and peak trading periods
Flexibility to cover rota as required
